Tammy Willcox was born in Miami, Oklahoma.  Located in the extreme northeast corner of the state, Miami is home to Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College, The Coleman Theatre Beautiful and home of Country Music Star, Keith Anderson.  The area is also proud to be "stomping grounds", as we say here in Oklahoma, to Mickey Mantle and Joe Don Rooney of Rascal Flatts.  Heisman trophy winner, Steve Owens, is also from Miami as well as famous artist, Charles Banks Wilson.

 BIO

Tammy is an active member of the First Christian Church where she often plays piano and harp. After years of studying piano and flute and playing banjo with the bluegrass band, Country Harmony, she began playing the harp at age 40. She now plays for many special public and private events and teaches harp, piano and flute lessons in her home. Tammy plays for hospice and frequently plays in nursing homes and retirement centers. She represents one-third of the Celtic group "Crofter's Gate".

Tammy served as administrative secretary/treasurer of Oklahoma Harp Weekend in Edmond, Oklahoma, in 2003 and hosted the Neosho River Harp Festival in Miami, OK in 2004 and 2005. Her latest endeavor is hosting an “Irish Weekend” to be held at the beautiful Sky Ranch in Miami, OK in spring of 2007.

While harping in her 'free' time, she's employed in the purchasing department of Boron Products, LLC where she has worked for 28 years. Other interests include volunteering at Horses of Hope Therapeutic Riding Center in Baxter Springs, KS. Membership to organizations include the International Society of Folk Harpers and Craftsmen, Scottish Harp Society, Celtic Oklahoma and the American Harp Society.

If you would like to begin an adventure in harping, visit one of my favorite web sites... www.folkharp.com  This is the web site for Melody's Traditional Music and Harp Shoppe in Houston, TX.  Or you can call 1-800-893-HARP.  Melody's is a very trustworthy source to purchase instruments and music!

Get ready for an evening of relaxing music, information and fun! This program includes a historical overview of the harp and harp music throughout the ages. Several different harp models will be on display. Music from several genres, including classical, Celtic, renaissance and modern movie scores will be presented. We’ll begin with the harp of King David from the Bible and discuss other harpers and harpists throughout history. And yes, there is a difference between ‘harpers’ and ‘harpists’! The difference will be revealed soon during the next presentation of “Lyre, lyre, harps on fire!”

"Lyre, Lyre, Harps on Fire!"
was a huge success recently at the
Miami Public Library

"I just finished going over the surveys I passed out last night. Everyone said your program exceeded their expectations!"
